The Lion's Quilt

This quilt was made as a first birthday present for my adorable nephew who is affectionately called The Lion. Being a fan of Andrea Lauren's work, I stumbled across this awesome lion print that just so happens to be the same colors as my nephew's (and his parent's) beloved Denver Broncos, so I figured it was meant to be.

Unaware of the Ocean Waves pattern, I fell in love with it through a quilt I found on Instagram and attempted to recreate it myself. Luckily, my step-mom swooped in to save the day - she had the Denyse Schmidt pattern and shared it with me. The few changes I made to the pattern were the size of the quilt (this is about 60" by 80") and the method of assembly. Because I wanted the "waves centers" as I've been calling them to be large cuts of the lion fabric, rather than four corners butted together I had to piece the quilt together a little backwards. With straight-lined quilting and a simple backing I think it all worked out in the end. Hopefully, The Lion will enjoy this quilt for sunny afternoon picnics and cool Colorado nights.

UPDATE:

The Lion loves his quilt and he was nice enough to share some photos with me! He sure is a handsome fellow!
